Srilanka, May 8 -- The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court yesterday that authorities have decided to abandon plans for constructing an expressway through the Wilpattu Sanctuary.

This announcement came during the hearing of a fundamental rights petition filed by the Environmental Foundation challenging the proposed expressway.

Deputy Solicitor General Avanthi Perera, representing the Attorney General, shared the update when the case was presented before a three-judge bench.

Following the statement, both parties agreed to settle the matter before the court.

The case was heard by Justices Janak de Silva, Mahinda Samayawardena, and Sampath Abeykoon.
