Sri Lanka, March 25 -- Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday the passage of the UNHCR Resolution on Sri Lanka indicates that Sri Lanka is not a puppet of the Western countries.

The present Government headed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa came to power to protect the rights of all communities while safeguarding the nation and not to become a puppet of the West.

Whatever sanctions are imposed on Sri Lanka, the Government is not ready to become a puppet of any country," he added.

The Minister made these remarks in response to various statements made by Opposition members, Tamil political parties and other parties on the passing of resolution tabled against Sri Lanka at the 46th UN Human Rights Council sessions.
