Srilanka, March 25 -- The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has disclosed significant losses incurred by the government due to fraudulent practices within the Department of Motor Traffic.
A total of 296 motorcycles were registered without paying the prescribed fees, resulting in a loss of Rs. 78.15 million.
Additionally, 3,088 motorcycles were registered without Cabinet approval and lacking the necessary legal documentation.
COPA's investigation, held on March 21, 2025, focused on reports from the Auditor General for the years 2020 to 2023, revealing serious issues within the department.
