Sri Lanka, March 1 -- The Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) has revealed that a Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) employee has been illegally using council-owned official residence and land within the Borella Cemetery to operate a funeral parlour since 1994, despite the land being under the ownership of the CMC.

This revelation emerged during Parliamentary sessions of the COPA Committee on 25 and 27 February, chaired by Parliamentarian Aravinda Senaratne. The sessions were convened to examine the 2022 and 2023 Auditor General's Reports and assess the current operational performance of the Colombo Municipal Council, for which its officials were summoned.
