Srilanka, April 22 -- The Constitutional Council is scheduled to convene in Parliament today (22) to decide on the appointment of a new Auditor General.
Among the names under consideration is Senior Deputy Auditor General Dharmapala Gammanpila, the most senior official currently serving at the National Audit Office.
Traditionally, the position of Auditor General is awarded to the most senior qualified officer within the National Audit Office, maintaining continuity and institutional integrity.
However, concerns have been raised by trade unions, who warn that appointing an external candidate could erode public trust in the government and the transparency of the selection process.
