Srilanka, April 21 -- Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe says the 'Compass'-a symbol associated with a rival political faction-will fail to secure a majority in most local government institutions at the upcoming elections.
Speaking at a meeting with United National Party (UNP) candidates from the Colombo and Kalutara districts, Wickremesinghe expressed confidence that opposition groups, including the UNP, could collectively gain control in many areas.
"The Compass won't get a majority in many places. We aim to achieve that majority by forming alliances and gaining power. Several groups coming together can agree on this approach," he said.
