Srilanka, Feb. 24 -- The Pugoda Magistrate's Court has imposed a fine of Rs. 300,000 each on a Private Company in Pugoda,for manufacturing and distributing bottled water with a forged Sri Lanka Standards (SLS) logo.
The ruling comes after a case filed following a Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) raid in October last year.
In addition to the fines, the court ordered the destruction of over 6,800 counterfeit drinking water bottles, valued at more than Rs. 1 million, under judicial supervision.
The water was disposed of on February 20 and the empty bottles are set to be recycled.
The case was filed on two charges-false representation by misusing the SLS certification mark and misleading consumers.
