Sri Lanka, Dec. 9 -- A special committee led by Deputy Defence Minister, retired Major General Aruna Jayasekara, has been appointed by the President to oversee the effective management of materials and equipment donated by foreign countries for the benefit of people affected by Cyclone 'Ditwah'.

The committee comprises senior Government officials including the Additional Secretary of the National Disaster Relief Services Centre and the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), and will ensure that these donations are delivered to those in need of such assistance.

The committee will convene three days a week to assess the progress, and the media will also be informed about how these donations are distributed to the public...
