Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- The Railway Department has announced that train services from Colombo to Puttalam Palaviya will resume from today (19), following the completion of restoration work after damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Several railway lines across the country were affected by the cyclone, with the Negombo-Puttalam line suffering extensive damage.
Over 200 feet of track near the Batthulu Oya bridge was completely washed away due to flooding.
After repairs to the severely damaged Mahawewa section, train services up to Chilaw were resumed earlier.
Railway Department Road Maintenance Service Unit staff then continued repair work on the remaining damaged sections.
