Srilanka, July 16 -- Colombo Mayor Vraie Cally Balthazaar has launched a new children's reading program at Sirinivasa, the Mayor's official residence.

Sirinivasa held its first 'Reading Day' session this week, with children from 12 pre-schools run by the Colombo Municipal Council taking part.

The program featured book readings, drawing activities, songs, and games. Both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor joined the children, celebrating their enthusiasm for reading and creative activities.

Mayor Balthazaar described the initiative as a long-term effort to nurture a love of reading among children.

"Many years ago, Sirinivasa was home to the city library, so we felt it was the perfect place to start a new reading program," she said.
