Srilanka, March 28 -- Police sources reveal a growing competition among seven senior DIGs for the position of Inspector General of Police (IGP) as calls to remove the imprisoned IGP Deshabandu Tennakoon intensify.

The names proposed for the IGP role include Acting DIG Priyantha Weerasuriya, and Senior DIGs Lalith Pathinayake (Administration), Sanjeewa Medawatte, Ranmal Kodithuwakku, Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, Kithsiri Jayalath, and L.G.R.S. Daminda.

Sri Lanka is set to appoint its 37th IGP, and if the motion to remove IGP Tennakoon is passed, the President will issue a formal dismissal. The new IGP will be recommended to the Constitutional Council by the President.
