He was accompanied by a 17-member delegation and travelled to Sri Lanka from Durban. The visit was limited to a short stopover, with no official engagements scheduled in the country.

The delegation was welcomed at the airport by Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong and senior officials from the Chinese Embassy in Colombo.
