Srilanka, April 22 -- Sri Lanka Public Health Inspectors Association Secretary Chamil Muthukuda said yesterday (21) that there is an increase in the incidence of chikungunya in the country.

He stated that with the rains these days, there is a high risk of dengue and chikungunya spreading, and that chikungunya is spread by the same Aedes mosquito that spreads dengue.

He also said that the outbreak of dengue and chikungunya has occurred due to the failure of people to keep their houses and the surrounding environment free of mosquitoes, as many people go on picnics and visit relatives and friends' homes during the long weekend and school holidays.
