Sri Lanka, Sept. 12 -- The Police have increased the amounts paid as rewards to Police officers and private informants assisting in operations to arrest suspects with illegal firearms.

"Accordingly, Police officers and private informants will be rewarded with Rs.250,000 each for providing information which leads to the detection of a T-56 firearm and arrest of a suspect. If a T-56 firearm is found without a suspect, a Police officer will be paid Rs.200,000 and a private informant Rs.250,000,"Police said.

In addition, the reward money for repeater guns, ammunition pistols, revolvers, firearms and hand grenades has been increased.
