Sri Lanka, Nov. 9 -- Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, has expressed strong concern over plans to introduce sex education into the national school curriculum from January next year, alleging that the move could mislead children and undermine cultural values.
Speaking at the reopening of the renovated St. Stephen Munidun Church in Keenadeniya, Mirigama, the Archbishop claimed that the proposed program is part of upcoming education reforms influenced by international organizations.
He said that lessons on topics such as sexual health, birth control, and relationships are expected to be introduced for students from Grade 6 onward, with teachers receiving special training to conduct these sessions.
