Sri Lanka, Oct. 23 -- Sri Lanka should implement the capital punishment for large scale drug traffickers, Prisons Commissioner General Jagath Weerasinghe asserted.

He made the strong statement while delivering the 435th lecture in his "The Place Not to Go" series, which was held in Nawalapitiya for 500 students from five local schools.

The event was organised by the Kotmale and Nawalapitiya Lions Clubs and the Nawalapitiya Police.

During his guest lecture, Commissioner Weerasinghe highlighted the severe overcrowding in the country's penal system. "Sri Lanka has 36 prisons, with a maximum capacity of 10,500 inmates.
