Sri Lanka, June 9 -- The Cabinet, which convened today (June 9), has reportedly decided to suspend the Commissioner General of Prisons, Thushara Upuldeniya, in connection with a serious lapse involving the unauthorized release of a convicted individual.
The controversy stems from the release of a defendant convicted by the Anuradhapura High Court for financial fraud involving the misappropriation of one million rupees. The release was carried out under the pretext of a presidential pardon issued on Vesak Poya Day (May 12).
