Sri Lanka, Nov. 24 -- The Ministry of Transport announced that bus passengers across Sri Lanka will be able to pay their fares using bank cards starting from today.

The digital payment system will be launching this morning (24) at the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Center.

Introduced to address long-standing issues such as the non-return of balance money during cash transactions, the new method aims to offer commuters a faster, more transparent, and convenient travel experience.

The initiative is being jointly implemented by the Digital Ministry and the Ministry of Transport.

In its first phase, the system will be rolled out across approximately 20 selected bus routes, with plans to expand nationwide in the coming months.
