Srilanka, May 26 -- The body of beloved veteran actress Malini Fonseka, fondly known as the Queen of Sri Lankan Cinema, has been brought to Independence Square today for a public tribute ahead of her final rites.
A state-sponsored funeral is being held in honour of the legendary actress, who passed away last Saturday at the age of 78. The public will be given the opportunity to pay their final respects until 3:00 p.m.
At 3:30 p.m., a special commemorative program will be held on a stage constructed by the alumni of Kelaniya Gurukula Vidyalaya, her alma mater, along with fellow artists, to celebrate her life and contributions to Sri Lankan cinema.
