Srilanka, June 24 -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) has announced that both Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) are on standby to accommodate emergency landings requested by civil airlines. The precautionary measure comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Several countries-including Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait-closed their airspace on June 23 following Iranian airstrikes on the Al Udeid U.S. military base in Doha. The closures have forced multiple airlines to reroute their flights.
