Srilanka, Feb. 17 -- With a view to promoting tourism in the Eastern Province, key coastal regions in Batticaloa town were cleared yesterday (16).
Under the 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme, the coastal areas in Batticaloa, Palameenmadu and Savukkady were cleaned with the assistance of the Security Forces.
Under the direction of Eastern Province Governor Prof. Jayantha Lal Ratnasekera and the supervision of Batticaloa Government Agent J. J. Muralitharan, discarded plastic, other pollutants and materials injurious to health were collected in Batticaloa Municipal Council vehicles and sent to the solid waste management centre at Thiruperunthurai.
