Srilanka, March 19 -- Wildlife officials in Galgamuwa discovered the body of a baby elephant that died in a road accident in the Meegashandiya area along the Anuradhapura-Padeniya main road yesterday (18).
The two-year-old elephant showed clear signs of injuries from the accident, and the vehicle responsible had fled the scene.
The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, and authorities have launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved.
Officials from the Galgamuwa Wildlife Office are conducting further inquiries into the tragic incident.
