Sri Lanka, Dec. 9 -- The appointment of a new Auditor General in Sri Lanka has been delayed for six months, amid reported political disputes involving some opposition parties and internal disagreements within the Auditor General's Department.

Former Auditor General W. P. C. Wickramaratne retired last April. Following his retirement, the President submitted a candidate for the position to the Constitutional Council, but the appointment was reportedly blocked due to objections from opposition representatives.

In the interim, the most senior officer in the department, Dharmapala Gammanpila, was appointed as Acting Auditor General for three months. A proposal to extend his acting appointment for another three months was reportedly rejected ...
