Sri Lanka, Oct. 30 -- Even though a large sum of Rs. 69.67 million had been spent on the doctoral degrees of seven lecturers at the Ruhuna University, no steps were taken to recover the money due to the failure to complete the degrees, an audit report issued by the National Audit Office states.
This money had been spent under the Doctoral Scholarship Programme of the Higher Education Projects and Development Acceleration Project. The audit has asserted that the funds provided by foreign projects should be utilised effectively. The audit has also emphasised that the management should take steps to implement an appropriate mechanism to promptly recover the funds from the lecturers who have violated the bonds.
