Sri Lanka, April 11 -- The Welfare Benefits Board announced that a total of Rs. 12.63 billion will be credited today (April 11) to the bank accounts of 1,737,141 eligible families under the Aswesuma welfare program. In addition, Rs. 2.9 billion will be distributed to 580,944 adults over the age of 70 within eligible Aswesuma beneficiary families.

Beneficiaries can access their payments through their respective Aswesuma bank accounts starting today.

Furthermore, beginning in April 2025, the government will increase the monthly elderly allowance from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 5,000, as proposed in the national budget. The Welfare Benefits Board confirmed that this revised allowance will also be extended to senior citizens within Aswesuma beneficia...
