Sri Lanka, Jan. 19 -- Following the consideration of Aswesuma appeals and objections, another 300,000 families have become eligible for the Aswesuma Welfare Benefit Scheme, Acting Finance Minister Shehan Semasinghe said yesterday.

He also said that 640,000 appeals have been considered and 5,000 families have been disqualified after reconsidering the objections.

He said that the number of families receiving Aswesuma benefits has exceeded 1.7 million and steps will be taken to release the installments from July to December last year to the banks as soon as possible to the newly selected families before the next installment is given for the beneficiaries.
