Sri Lanka, Aug. 21 -- Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday. He has been remanded until August 27 by Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura.
The arrest is linked to the investigation into the May 9, 2022, attack on the "Gota Go Gama" protest site at Galle Face. At the time of the incident, Tennakoon was serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police for the Western Province and has since been named a suspect in the case.
The Magistrate also ordered that all police witnesses be examined within a week and instructed the CID to submit a summary of the evidence on the next hearing date.
