Sri Lanka, Dec. 11 -- The Fort Magistrate's Court has issued an arrest warrant for Namal Kumara, who is accused of making statements that insulted the Cardinal and allegedly incited anger within the Catholic community.
The warrant was issued by Magistrate Isuru Neththikumara on 9 December 2025 after Kumara failed to appear in court when the case was called. The second suspect in the case, Asela Nuwan Rajapaksa, appeared in court as scheduled.
Police are investigating the incident under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act. According to investigators, the statements made by the suspects were found to spread religious, ethnic, and national hatred.
