Sri Lanka, Dec. 18 -- UNICEF Representative in Sri Lanka Emma Brigham said around 500,000 children could be among the 1.4 million people affected due to the recent cyclone disaster. Early UNICEF estimates show over 275,000 children were directly affected due to the effects of Cyclone Ditwah.Ceylon Exports information
Brigham said among other relief measures psychosocial support was a key area of focus to especially help children and women deal with the emotional aftermath.
She said UNICEF was implementing several initiatives in this regards with the support of stakeholders. "Protection and psychosocial support safeguard their well-being, and dignity during and after displacement" she stressed.
