Sri Lanka, June 9 -- The Superintendent of the Anuradhapura Prison was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department yesterday (08) afternoon.

The arrest was made in connection with the investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department into the illegal use of the Presidential Pardon to release other prisoners.

When asked about this, the Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, confirmed this.

The Presidential Secretariat had earlier issued a statement stating that it was concerned about the news that a person named W.H. Athula Thilakaratne, who was detained at the Anuradhapura Prison under a Presidential Pardon on the occasion of the 2025 Vesak festival, had been released and that there was serious irregularity ...
