Sri Lanka, Feb. 1 -- The first-ever celebration of Mother Earth's "birthday" was held on January 4, 2025, marking a historic milestone. The event, organized by astronomer Anura C. Perera, commemorated the day when the Earth comes closest to the Sun in its annual orbit.

While January 1 was historically set as the start of the year due to its proximity to this astronomical event about 400 years ago, the Earth now reaches perihelion (the closest point to the Sun) on January 4 due to changes in the universe.
