Sri Lanka, Sept. 28 -- Another monk receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the tragic cable truck collapse at the Na Uyana Aranya Senasana in Melsiripura has passed away. The monk died while receiving care at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Kurunegala Hospital.

With this latest death, the total number of monks who have died in the incident has risen to eight. Hospital sources confirmed that despite intensive medical attention, the monk succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Meanwhile, five monks are still receiving treatment at Kurunegala Hospital. The last rites of five of the seven monks who initially died in the accident were performed yesterday at the Melsiripura-Pansiyagama Public Cemetery.
