Srilanka, April 16 -- An American national was arrested by officers of the Customs Narcotics Division at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, for attempting to smuggle 23 kilograms of 'Kush' cannabis into Sri Lanka.
The 31-year-old suspect, employed at a land trading company in the United States, arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, on SriLankan Airlines flight UL-403.
He was apprehended while trying to exit the airport through the 'Red Channel' designated for businessmen at the arrivals terminal.
Upon inspection, customs officials discovered 23 one-kilogram packets of 'Kush' concealed in his luggage. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at approximately Rs. 230 million.
