Srilanka, May 5 -- All schools across the country will be closed today (5) and tomorrow (6) due to the Local Government Elections. Schools are scheduled to re-open on May 7.

However, schools being used for election duties will re-open on May 8. A circular signed by Education Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwawa, approved this temporary closure.

The closure applies to schools, colleges of education, and advanced technological institutes that are being used as ballot collection centers and results tabulation centers for the elections. These facilities will be used for handing over and receiving ballot boxes and other election-related materials to and from the senior election officers.
