Sri Lanka, Dec. 5 -- Akuressa, along the Nilwala River, received the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours, recording nearly 125 mm, according to Engineer L. S. Suriyabandara, Director (Hydrology and Disaster Management) of the Irrigation Department.

In a statement issued this morning (5), he noted that rainfall in most other areas remained normal and that river water levels did not show any significant increase. He emphasized that low rainfall in other regions does not imply a rise in river levels.

Engineer Suriyabandara also confirmed that the tank system is stable, with most tanks spilling at normal or spillage levels, and there is currently no danger of excessive flooding.
