Sri Lanka, Sept. 10 -- Ayomal Akalanka of Ambagamuwa Central College lit up the second day of the 93rd Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship with a stunning performance in the Boys Under-20 400m Hurdles, setting a new meet record of 50.51 seconds at the Diyagama Stadium in Homagama yesterday.
Akalanka slashed almost two seconds off the previous record to win the gold medal, as the Ritzbury-sponsored four-day championship produced 10 new meet records on the day.
Indupa Silva of Ananda Shasthralaya, Kotte, stormed to victory in the Under-20 Boys 200m with a new meet record time of 21.48 seconds. In the Under-18 Boys 200m, C. Imesh of St Joseph's College, Colombo, sprinted to gold in 21.61 seconds, also erasing the old mark.
