Sri lanka, Oct. 2 -- Sri Lanka's Australian-based swimmer Akalanka Peiris broke the Sri Lanka national short course record in the 100m Individual Medley and also finished among the top swimmers in Australia at the Australian National Short Course Swimming Championship in Melbourne yesterday.

On the opening day, the 25-year-old, who is based in Australia, clocked 55.89 seconds in the 100m Individual Medley, finishing among the top six in the whole of Australia. With this performance, he erased his own Sri Lanka short course national record of 56.49, set at the 2022 National Short Course Championship held at Isipathana College, Colombo.
