Srilanka, March 21 -- A K-8 aircraft, used for advanced pilot training by the No. 05 Fighter Squadron at the Sri Lanka Air Force Base in Katunayake, crashed this morning (21) in the Wariyapola Padeniya area of Kurunegala during a training exercise.
The two pilots aboard the aircraft, the Chief Training Instructor and the Trainee Pilot, safely ejected and landed with the assistance of parachutes at the Minuwangate College premises in Kurunegala.
Both pilots have been evacuated and are currently receiving treatment at the Kurunegala National Hospital.
The aircraft, which had taken off from Katunayake Air Force Base at approximately 07:27 am, crashed around 07:55 am.
