Srilanka, Feb. 27 -- The Peradeniya University's Engineering Faculty has developed a new device using artificial intelligence to minimise collisions between elephants and trains on the Eastern Railway. Engineering Faculty Dean Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake said that this device has been manufactured, so that a camera mounted on the train can observe a wild elephant on the railway track from about 500 metres ahead.
He said that there are no cameras on the market that can observe objects beyond a distance of 500 metres, and therefore a new device was produced using artificial intelligence to cover the relevant distance.
