Sri Lanka, Dec. 3 -- Ever since 1992, every 3rd of December, we observe the international day of Persons with Disabilities. The annual observance was proclaimed under United Nations General Assembly Resolution 47/3 made on October 8, 1992 at Montreal in Canada based on the decade of awareness raised by the World Programme of Action.

The resolution aims to continue the improvement of the situation of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) and the equalization of opportunities for them. The General Assembly urges all member states including national, regional, and international organisations, to extend their full cooperation for the day.
