Sri Lanka, Dec. 29 -- This essay aims at analysing the governance enhancements introduced by the Universities Amendment Act of 2025, which amends sections 49 and 51 of the Universities Act No. 16 of 1978. These amendments establish structured electoral and appointment processes, empower University Councils with removal authority, impose term limits, and mandate role separation to curb conflicts of interest. The Universities [Amendment Act of 2025 represents a step towards good governance within Sri Lankan universities by embedding structured accountability, transparency, and institutional checks in academic leadership.
