Srilanka, June 27 -- A tense situation unfolded at the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha today (27 June) following reports that two National People's Power (NPP) members were allegedly abducted en route to attend a crucial council session.

The two members were reportedly on their way to participate in the election to appoint the new Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha when the incident occurred.

Due to their unexplained absence, the scheduled session was suspended, and proceedings were halted. Council members have proposed to resume the meeting only after the two missing members return.

Authorities are yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the alleged abduction, while investigations are reportedly underway.
