Sri Lanka, Jan. 31 -- The move by the Ministry of Defense to recall all firearms issued to individuals-both politicians and others-indeed is a welcome step, which should have been undertaken long before now. Had this been the case, the frequency of shooting incidents now taking place would not have occurred, not to mention killings done by shootings. The Ministry has commenced the task by recalling five of the seven firearms issued to Yoshitha Rajapaksa, the second son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He (Rajapaksa) has been informed to return one of the two remaining firearms now in his possession. Why, as much as seven firearms, were issued to Yoshitha in the first place, is anyone's guess.
