Sri Lanka, May 8 -- The Minister of Health and Industries Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said in Parliament yesterday (07) that about 3,000 new kidney patients are diagnosed in Sri Lanka every year.

The Minister stated that an allowance of Rs. 7,500 is currently given to a kidney patient and 19,247 people are benefited.

The Minister said this while replying to the question asked by the Samagi Jana Balawega Galle District MP Gayantha Karunathilaka, regarding kidney patients.

The Minister said that it was reported last year that the life expectancy for a woman is 80 years and for a man is 76 years and maternal deaths have increased with the covid pandemic and economic crisis.
