Sri Lanka, Feb. 4 -- The 77th National Independence Day celebrations commenced this morning (04) at Independence Square under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Addressing the nation, the President emphasized the need to go beyond political, ethnic, and social divisions to achieve full economic and social freedom. He highlighted that true independence is not merely a historical milestone but an ongoing struggle that requires collective effort.

"Today is a day to honor the countless brave individuals who made sacrifices to secure our freedom. While we have come a long way, the journey toward economic, social, and cultural liberation is not over," he stated.
