Sri Lanka, Dec. 29 -- The final rites of the late legendary Sri Lankan singer Latha Walpola is to be held on December 31.
Revered as the eternal "Queen of Songs," Latha Walpola was born in Mt Lavinia in 1934, and began her musical journey at the age of 12, making her debut on Radio Ceylon in 1946.
Her illustrious career spanned several decades, during which she recorded more than 6,000 songs and lent her voice to over 600 Sri Lankan films. She made her playback singing debut in 1953 with the film Eda Ra, leaving behind a timeless legacy in Sri Lankan music and cinema.
Her remains will lie in State for public respects at the Jayaratne Funeral Parlour, Borella.
