Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- The body of a tusker named Mahasilu, who had been inhabiting the Buttala and Okkampitiya areas, was discovered this morning (11) in a paddy field in Illukpitiya, Okkampitiya.
The exact cause of death has not yet been determined, and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted. However, wildlife officials suspect that the elephant may have died due to unauthorized electrocution.
Mahasilu, who was well-known in the area for his majestic appearance with two fully-grown tusks, had become a familiar sight to residents. His death has raised concern among the local community and conservationists alike.
