Sri Lanka, Feb. 10 -- Deputy Health Minister Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni said that nearly 100 new cancer patients are identified daily in Sri Lanka, while around 40 lives are lost each day, noting that cancer has become one of the country's major public health challenges and that the numbers continue to rise steadily.Sri Lanka travel guide

He further explained that the high death toll is largely due to late-stage detection, which makes treatment more difficult and less effective.

The Deputy Minister also noted that six cancer early detection centres are currently operating in association with major hospitals across the country, and that plans are underway to expand these services to cover all districts in the future.
