Srilanka, May 22 -- Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake yesterday (21) said a number of measures will be put in place to minimize road accidents and ensure a more streamlined transport system.

"The Ministry has taken a number of initiatives which are aimed at minimising road accidents. These are the result of over 50 discussions and workshops held with bus owners, various private companies, and other stakeholders, and are not a sudden response to the Gerandi Ella bus accident," he said.

The Minister was addressing a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information (DGI).
