Nairobi, April 5 -- The government has confirmed the distribution of sub-standard fertiliser to farmers following the completion of testing on all fertilisers being distributed under the subsidy programme.

Consequently, it has suspended KEL Chemicals branded Kelphos Plus, Kelphos gold and NPK 10:26:10, which did not meet all required test parameters.

In a statement on Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture said it intends to initiate legal action against the manufacturer.

Nakuru police recently seized hundreds of bags of fake fertiliser as they were being delivered to NCPB depots.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi had described the reports of fake fertiliser as propaganda.
